Online Music
The proliferation of online music is so vast these days
that what many people download is actually poorer quality than CD sound.
This becomes a problem when programs like iTunes or Amazon want to charge
the same amount for their music than what’s on a compact disc.
Online music can come in the form of:
• MP3
• WAV (PC)
• AIFF (Apple)
• AAC
MP3s are the most accepted form of online music because they are the
closest to matching CD-quality sound. That said, MP3s also take up the
most amount of room on a computer. AACs are gaining popularity because
that is the format iTunes sells. These are less quality but very convenient
to purchase through Apple. You can also burn the files on a cd to play
in your laptop or dvd player.
This is on the decline, however, because of the rising popularity of
other forms of portable music.
